Ashikubo
Ashikubo River basin, a tributary of the Abe River.
Ashikubo, blessed with rich nature, is an area with a long history of prosperity in the tea industry.
It is the “birthplace of Shizuoka tea” where Shoichi Kokushi, a high priest of the Kamakura period
(1185-1333), sowed tea seeds brought back from the Sung Dynasty (960-1279).
In the Edo period (1603-1867), Ashikubo tea was widely known as “high-grade tea
for the shogun’s household.
Ashikubo has a long history with tea.
Even today, there are many tea plantations along the Ashikubo River.

Ashikubo Tea Works
Ashikubo Tea Works is a tea farming cooperative established in 1997
by approximately 50 tea farmers from Ashikubo.
The association aims to thoroughly manage tea plantations, produce safe, secure,
and delicious tea, and carries out a variety of activities to help more people learn about and drink tea
from Ashikubo, the birthplace of Shizuoka tea.
In addition, in order to continue to pass down Ashikubo tea and continue to develop it,
mid-level farmers teach younger farmers how to grow and replant, and are working
to protect Ashikubo tea.
Their management philosophy is to nurture young successors and spread Ashikubo tea
throughout the country and the world, and they study day and night and work hard as a whole to improve every day.

Shin-Komyoji Temple
Shinkomyoji is a Jodo sect temple that was relocated in 1977 in Ashikubo,
Aoi Ward, where the tea fields are spread out.
It is a popular spot for viewing the autumn leaves, which are at their best around late November
every year, and the path leading to the entrance of the shrine grounds is lined with trees
colored in beautiful red.
It is also a relaxing place where you can experience not only autumn but also the four seasons,
with cherry blossoms in spring and fireflies dancing in early summer.
Various events are held here, including the Kasamori Inari Festival held every May,
making it a temple that entertains visitors.

From Rindou (the hotel)
Welcome to the Forest Hotel.
Rindou is located north of Shizuoka City center, about 30 minutes by car
upstream of the clear Abe River, and further upstream of the Ashikubogawa River, which is a tributary.
This is also a region where aromatic tea is produced, guided by our ancestors.
Our roots lie in the way of life of our predecessors, who have been engaged in forestry
and agriculture in this area for generations.
Because Rindou is a small hotel, we value the once-in-a-lifetime experience
and want to be a space where you can always feel the warmth of human contact.
